So there are a number of ramifications:Goggsy Brown wrote: Police to be armed with 10,000 handhelds
Mobile data devices to boost frontline policing, says PM. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has pledged to arm police with thousands of "handheld computers" so officers can make more effective use of their time and increase the amount of frontline policing they do. Brown, who was making his maiden speech as leader to the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth, said: "We will provide hand held computers - 1,000 now, by next year 10,000 right across the country - cutting paperwork so that officers can log crimes on the spot, stay on the beat and not waste time returning to the station to fill out forms."
- next time you pass a patrol car on speed duty, you will be safe...the bobby will be too busy fiddling with his emails on his blackberry to notice you
- next time a bobby comes to your house for a statement after you've been burgled, he'll be too distracted by his emails and updating his calendar with a personal appointment to take any notes of what you are saying
- next time you get a NIP it will have significantly fewer words on it, lots of typos, and will have a footer which reads "sent by blackberry"
And as for "more time for frontline policing", who do you know whose blackberry has done ANYTHING AT ALL for their productivity? Other than reduce it, and make them very rude in meetings?
