Engine test mishap

Post by woody » Thu Sep 06, 2007 10:48 am

Found this video on a desktop at work, and then forgot to email it home so had to re-find it on you-tube. It's a bit of a test stand failure.....

The engine was a GE J85 turbojet on test, probably after an overhaul. Can't find anything else about it yet.

Reminds me of a friend of mine who works for a company that services aircraft engines at prestwick airport, when serving his time he dropped a turbine blade thing (their may be a more technical term but I work sub con) when fitting them into an engine, he picked it up and put it in said engine during test it proceded to exit through the side of the engine with a large bang.

So they sent him to uni and posted him all over the world ;)

I've been thinking about extra power for the Sport 160; this might be the answer...

I figure it would pay for itself in about 6 months over a Honda conversion in reliability.

Does anyone know where I can get a de-cat pipe for a P&W afterburner?
