NLC - LAptop H Disc problem...

my sisters laptop is seperating the hard disk into ACERDATA D:/ and ACER c:/. C has filled up and laptop is warning memory is low but not utilising D...

any ideas guys?

aah, ok... the disk has been partitioned into 2 areas when windows was installed. You've got a few options here:

1. Move some of the stuff from the C: drive onto the D: drive. You'll probably find that most of the space has been taken up with music / photos / documents and all these things are easily moveable.

2. Get rid of the D: drive completely and use a tool like "partition magic" to expand the C: drive to use all the disk space.

What version of windows is it and how big are the C: and D: drives?

Check out the location of her 'My Documents' folder... if it's on the C: drive (probably buried in her users/...blah blah.../documents & settings folder) then she can move it to the D: drive.

IIRC it's just a case of right-clicking 'My Documents' folder and selecting 'Properties'. It should then report the Target Folder for My Documents. If it's currently under C: then just click 'Move' and choose a place on the D: drive. If you click the right buttons

the contents of 'My Documents' will all me moved to the new location. Presto!

Of course... this assumes it's not already on D:ACERDATA!!

Steve - both c and d appear to be 20GB each. its XP.

think il tyry the partition software thing and get rid of D.

my laptop is 40 GB. partitioned it into 4 drives.
C: = 10GB (windows XP, anti virus, spyware)
D: = 10 GB (main softwares)
E: = 15 BG (music, photos, videos)
F: = 5 GB (few games, software set up files for emergency)

works perfectly fine for me. system works fast too.
