Bit mental when you think about it. Thay confirmed that if I waited a month I'd get an upgrade (this came from one of the supervisors too). So basically thay have made an extra tenner via the disconnection fee and lost a long-term customer :scratch

And I thought my business acumen was bad

Might be worth another try later..

Definately worth a try later, and really really beef them with the fact that you have not had a new phone in the last x amount of years and they should be bending over to help you right now!

They will have phoned you up and asked if you were happy with your tarrif and handset, if you said yes, that would be you signed up for another 18 month contract.

Called Slamming, happens now and then, they just rely on you not being bothered about your phone and not reading the small print. With upgrades there isn't even anything to sign an no paperwork at all!!

I would wait 30 days if you can borrow a handset, then tell them to get stuffed.

Tariffs to look out for:

Carphone: SWAPIT new handset after 9 months
3: Loads of mins and texts for FA a month
T-Mob: Web and Walk loads of free internet stuff
O2: Free evening and weekend calls

PS I get no commission for new sales only upgrades ;)

Picked up a Orange Pay as You Go Motorola at Asda today for £9. No frills phone for calls and text, 300 hours standby and nice and slim (Size (W x H x D)47 x 114 x 9 mm) and light at 68 g, certainly not a brick.

With 2 for 1 Orange wednesday film offers it would work out as free after 2 visits to the cinema. Works fine with my Orange monthly sim card.
Vauxhall Astra 1.4 Sports Hatch - not as slow as my old Corsa :-)

BMW R1200GS - Fast as F@ck spec - 0-60 in 3.2 secs

looks like they have taken u for a good ride. i guess u should be able to put them in a tight corner for having charged u for nothing. (thats almost like the bank charges situation).
for all u know, orange might give u a compensation / freebies (to keep u quiet)
or may be even a few naked dancing girls
check out the money supermarket site. few weeks ago, i vaguely remember seeing a topic about breaking the contract term legally. as in u wouldnt be tied down to the provider or the handset model even if the contract period is over.

p.s. - rich, no offence meant to ur business :D . TBH i am very happy with carphone warehouse service. on to my 2nd yr of contract. :D

:D Like it Rich....

Cheers for all the advice.....

I'm still shopping...

Oh, an Orange automated voice message did contact me to try and dissuade me from leaving: nice personal touch I thought- that must win back a lot of custom! :D .
