If you're on a mission then by all means heal and toe, but then do it right - i.e. full force on the brake pedal (it's got ABS ...) and a good and sustained throttle input - you're looking for 7,000 RPM or so on a proper downshift

Robin, how did you find H&T in the Exige? I can't see how it can be possible without adjusting the pedals, the brake pedal seems to go down too far to allow me to get my foot onto the accelerator. Even if the fluid needs bled to give a firmer pedal, I can't imagine it'll make a big enough difference to make H&T achievable...
Mr Momo, where did you get the pedal adjustment done? I think I'm going to need to get this done shortly!
I find a blip on the throttle on downchanging helps with gear selection, not to mention sounds nice too

The brake adjustment was a factory recommended mod (aka very quietly announced recall) - done a a while ago
The throttle cable was picked-up at the annual service - glad I got it done under warranty.

The pedal is as adjusted as an adjusted thing.
H&T is easy, but you need to do it with your heal and toe rather than left/right balls of your feet (which has other disadvantages besides).
You have to press the pedal very hard with the left ball of your foot. Then, when you need to pick up the accelerator lift up your heal and rotate on the ball of your foot. Assuming you are wearing driving shoes with wrap-around rubber edges, some part of your heal will touch the accelerator and allow you to apply it.
You don't have to do it, but these high revving engines really benefit from it, especially if you need to block shift (e.g. 5th->2nd).
Just make sure you don't over do it - it's easy to over-rev the toyota engine on downshift and it is really doesn't like it (=> very expensive!).
Cheers,
Robin

I did the pedal adjustment myself and I have got a pdf of the Lotus technical bulletin which describes how to do it if anyone wants it emailed to them.
I heel and toe on the road, really just for the hell of it so I can hear a nice throttle blip, but I still find it very hard to do when I am braking as hard as possible on track. About the quickest driver I have ever been round KH with as a pax is Uldis, and if I remember right he does not heel and toe. So, no doubt a good thing if you can do it well, and I am sure it saves clutch wear, but it does not seem to be necessary to be bloody quick...

Not had the adjustment done on mine but I am used to it now and think I would find H&T more awkward if it were. The lower brake position seems to suit me.

Yup, Uldis is super-quick, but uses a weird braking technique that I assume is a hangover from his bike racing days (plus his plates-o-meat are huge

) - also accounts for the fact that he's probably the hardest I've ever seen on his braking system!
