Finally got it !

Post by Jamie84 » Mon Jul 23, 2007 11:01 pm

got my dream car on sat , chrome orange exige . what can i say the car is absolutly nuts  done 700 miles since picking up the car and loved every minute. not sure how to post pics but you can imagin how it looks . Everything about the car is great apart from the fact its getting maybe a bit more attention than i thought , went into McDonalds last night and half the staff were out taking pictures of the car as if i wasnt even there ! everysingle person stops and stares as if its a zonda or summit , i am thinking 70 % percent of these havent seen an exige before . Also the girlfriend loves it very much so but dont think shes to happy with the attention i am getting either ! plus the fact i've been neglecting her for the car :( i cant help it  Anyway guys few questions

1) what kind of engine temperature is classed as dangerous? had max of 93 so far .

2) got a stage 2 exhaust that sounds fab , but cant help my self bouncing it off the rev limiter to here it bang and pop...how frequent can i get away with doing this or should it be a no no full stop ?

3) does the 6th gear have second cam ? struggling to find it

also anytips on things i should maybe check maintenance wise ,seeing as i have only just got the car from someone else ?

cheers dudes ... will post pics as sound as i find out how

The looks are normal, and trust me it doesnt stop- can get a bit annoying at times when you are trying to move about stealthy.

I think the most temp I ever saw was high 90s and then the fan cuts in.

I would go easy on the rev limiter- not sure you can damage it by revving too much, but over-revs (on downchange) are what kills the toyota engine.

I think it hits an aerodynamic wall before getting close to 2nd cam in 6th - never tried to be honest. But of course, thats on your private road

Enjoy!

yeah i am kinda know what you mean bout the aerodynamic wall ,when you talk bout knackering the yota engine do you mean like droping it into second when your doing somthing like 80 ? or droping it into second when doing say 50 and letting it overun right down

if ya know what i mean !

Ive hit the second cam in 6th. Had her up to 150mph on the Autobahn of course! The max temp before problems is 120 degrees, ive had 108. With JJ on the limiter. Its very easy to get pops and bangs with the stage two on over-run.

Enjoy, cheers Ed

:withstupid

Constantly banging it off the limiter can only be bad in the long run mind you.

The rev limiter is there to stop you going above the engines normal operating window so should not damage anything but the ECU logs what you do with the car so if it shows you spend half your time on the limiter Lotus will be far less likely to show any goodwill if anything were to go wrong.

I very rarely used second cam on the road when I had my S2 exige. Even for overtaking it wasn't really required and the time it takes to shift into cam was a pain.

On track it was in it from the start of the session to the end and hitting the rev limiter in every gear. It's also true that on track you need to run it on the rev limiter for short periods of time because sometimes that is the best compromise for gear selection, given the penalty of dropping out of second cam is massive (well, it feels massive).

The ECU backs off the rev limiter after ~1s IIRC, so you won't really do any damage holding it on the limiter for prolonged periods.

Engine life is reduced with revs (the pistons and cams wear faster at higher engine speeds than at lower engine speeds), but I would still expect the toyota engine to last a good 50K miles when thrashed.

Cheers,
Robin
