My suggestion would be that you have a look at the internal positions vacant list and find something more befitting your qualifications, experience and ability, be optimistic on the level. Then send an e-mail to all the people on the cc list saying that you are thinking of applying for the position and wonder whether that will cause any difficulties with the project.

Might get you a more suitable position.
