Where to Eat in Edinburgh Advice Pls

Post by Snapper » Sat Jul 14, 2007 2:47 pm

Thanks for all the advice and help on my Scottish trip help thread.

But I have another question.

I am looking for a recommendations for good places to eat in the early evening. Say 6pm to 8pm for a party of eight people, It needs to be with-in a very short walking distance to the Castle where we will be watching the Royal Military Tattoo.

Ideally it should be good hearty traditional food.

Thanks

A few choices for you:

The witchery - lovely restaurant just down from the castle. Book now as it's in demand!

Maison bleu 36/38 Victoria Street, EH1 2JW, tel: 0131 220 5686 is nice too - in a french kind of way.

The grain store is worth a look too. Not been in for a while, but the food is always good & with a scottish twist...

Cheers,

Get yourself to the Secret Garden which is in the Close next to The Witchery... Long as you get good weather its the best place to eat in Edinburgh by a long shot - food/setting/price all top :thumbsup

In my opinion

There's also howies on victoria street that's nice & good value for money

Also if youre into seafood, try creelers in hunter square. You'll be hard pushed to find a finer seafood restraunt anywhere imho

Still got thinking cap on........... :)

Having had a look around there seems to be not a lot of choice in the upto £ 30 a head + drinks

Creelers

Dubh Prais Restaurant

Jacksons

So may be stepping away from the traditional menu, has anyone been to any of these.

Witchery & the Tower are owned by the same chap, so are pretty pricey. Can't really think of much that's close to the castle to be honest. Abstract is in Castle Terrace, but that's Witchery priced too...

If you don't mind a wee walk, the Doric is nice and traditional:-

Merchants again is pretty good, and not too far away:-

Even further away is the Whisky Society on Queen Street :- http://www.smws.co.uk but its cracking (and the whisky's not bad either ;) )

Looks like it's between The Merchants Restaurant & Creelers Seafood Restaurant.

Which is the best to take 8x people?

Gordon Tratoria just down from the Castle (just down from the filling station)

Pizza Express on the bridges... Nice pasta & salads, and the pizza's are nice too.... not your Pizza Hut type place although the name suggests it.

That would be my 2 pizza/Italian choices near the Castle
