Excellent analysis from Andrew Benson at the BBC...a good read as we chase down the two remaining races of the season...

I would love to see Alonso win the championship this year. I think he has shown great skills in a car that is off top form. I'm not convinced that Vettel is as good a driver and I don't like him as a person.. from what I hear of his behavior behind the scenes. Alonso is not exactly 'Mr Personality' either, but seems like a more genuine guy.

One large vote for Alonso here also.

I'll third that for Alonso. Never taken to Vettel and, like Dom, I think what Alonso has achieved in the Ferrari this year shows his talent.

Im not fussed - don't care much for either. However Alonso is able to get more out of a car than it should be capable of so on that basis it has to be him

Difficult to rate it on most deserving.

I would have to go with whoever gets the most points is the deserving winner.

I used not to like Vettel but he came across us a really nice guy on top gear - of course he could be a good actor ... also when he's at the back he does seem to make his way through the pack, so not only a case of sitting in the fastest car on pole and dominating from the front. I would favour Alonso to win because I think he's worked the hardest and shown the most talent consistently all season so deserves it more. Of course whoever gets most points clearly deserves to win (the best combination of car, team and driver) so if Vettel gets it, I won't be sad.

Cheers,
Robin

Alonso if he does it would be with a non winning car, and if he makes it twould be on consistency as well as determination and talent. Ferrari have not hacked it this season and they know it.

Red Bull and McLaren are the front runners and normally dominate the two front rows, but they have not run away with it because Alonso is up there despite the car. In that respect he would have pulled out more than any other driver and would be my choice, but I am still happy for the points to decide it.

McLaren seem to have mastered the art of snatching defeat for the jaws of victory this year. They have a quick car, good drivers, but IMHO the team has let them down repeatedly this year.

Button has hampered himself with poor qualifying and poor first lap - he's always a couple of tenths behind Hamilton and then sometimes more and often as not he seems to go backward on the first lap. He makes it back over race distance where juggling tyre wear is as important as outright pace but by then he's always in 6th place and so needs some luck to get on the podium. I don't think you can blame mclaren for that.

Hamilton has had some more memorable team-induced DNFs and I think that's where they've really lost the points.

I wish Button was more aggressive, but he's not so I think the team are destined to go backwards next year unless they can recruit some fresh engineering talent to rival Newey.

Cheers,
Robin

Unless Perez is actually as fast as some people think he is...

FWIW, I can't see Whitmarsh staying much longer at McLaren if they have another shocking year. You could see Ron coming back on the scene this year to 'advise' at selected races. More likely to light a fire under Whitmarsh - I genuinely think they get on, but Ron's not the sort to tolerate the shambles his, once immaculate, team have been on occasion this year...

Not saying Ron will be back - lots of political and business reasons not to, but I do think that Whitmarsh is on a shoogly stool...

Sometimes a change of management can actually be a good thing - not that Whitmarsh is necessarily doing anything wrong, but a new broom can look under every carpet to mix my metaphors ....
