Just been texting scotty to see how he got on today. They had free practise this morning before Qually, where he was 5th on the grid. He finished 5th in Race 1, but i have no idea if he was fighting all the way, or had a lonely race. he was 5th behind two GT4 211's, gav kirby in 3rd, and steve williams in 4th. I asked if there was anywhere in particular he was losing time to them, he claims he just doesnt have big enough balls, which i think might be a lie.

well done scotty, 5th is still a great result, even though you want to win.

Wish i was there

:-) Probably worth the F1-style budget required to compete in that case :-)

Well done Scotty - it is an excellent track, so I hope you enjoyed the driving as much as the class win!

Cheers,
Robin

Got the ferry across on Thursday with Gav an Lem (gav's mechanic) very quiet night, not like the SE trips at all :D

Quick blast down to the tack from the ferry arrive at the track in plenty of time for the 2 x 30 min sessions.

Went out to learn the track and had a good 5 or so laps with Steve passing learning lines etc, bit like the old days with Tut when he could keep up :damnfunny

Walk to the track on Saturday morning from the hotel (50m away). Qually went OK but I could not believe Gav's pace 2 sec a lap quicker and got pole in front of the 2 x 2-11 GT4's, Steve and then myself. Gav loves the track and to showed all weekend. Great result Gav.

Race 1

Got off to a not bad start but was still in 5th.Even with Gav, Steve and the gt4 boys battling it out I could not stay with them and ended up just racing the whole race on my own dropping slowly back from them, but keeping them is sight. This gave me time to learn the track a bit more and was just hoping they would get heald up by back markers but it wasn't to be. It was a real shame for Gav but he got a 20 sec penalty for not wearing gloves, this put me 3rd in class behind the 2 x gt4's. Was gutted for Gav and was ashamed to go up and get the trophy. I was well and trully scalped by him.

Race 2

I had 4 guy's in front on the reverse grid and if I could get a good start and the others behind were held up I had a chance, I was not on there pace. Got a blinder and I chose to cut across in front of Steve and cut down the inside of the guys in front. VERY scary going down the straight squeezed between the wall and other cars  managed to get up to 2nd into the frist corner and then got into the lead a few corners later. I than put in a good 4 laps with the pack disapearing in my mirrors. I could not have written it better. I then come round with waved yellows a VERY nasty crash. One of the GT4 2-11 had been t boned and there was loads of marshalls, fire trucks, I then get going again and the after coming down the pit straight the Safety car sign comes out, so I back off the pace. This was to prove the wrong thing to do for the result but I thought I was doing the right thing. I watch the grid catch me back up, totally gutted I had a 10-15 second lead. But coming back round to the crash they are now holding up blankets round the cars. I have a sickly fealing and try not to look and stay focused on my race but it was very hard. I then come round onto the pit straight again before the safety car comes out, we then do another 2 laps behind him before they stop us on the grid. We seem to sit there for a long time, but I try to stay focused. I now have Steve along side and Harry in a GT4 2-11 behind and Gav next to him. GREAT!!!! we are then told it will be a 4 lap race, rolling start. On the start I get away and manage to hold off Steve and now Gav for a lap or so, but I am really struggling with understeer on the cold tyres. Then gav gets passed and I follow for half a lap or so. We get the last lap sign and there is nothing in it between us. Steve does some real good blocking on Gav and this gives me a chance to try round the outside. I get past Gav and then Steve blocks me off and Gav is along side and I notice the waved yellows so I back off and Gav cuts infront. I was a bit pi55ed off as I thought I was in second place and it was the 3rd to last corner, but Gav thought the same and I guess we will never know. I then follow then round the last couple of corners not really pushing (this was school boy error number 47) what a finish to the race, great respect for Steve and Gav they have driven better then me all weekend, but I am still gutted not to win the race overall or even the class.

Now the results.

We all thought that that the restart was the restart and the race to the flag was for the win.

Wrong.

The race results were decided on both the frist 5 lap times and the last 4 laps added together. I lost out to Steve by .8 second overall. Strange I was 10-15 second in the lead and only finished 2 seconds or so behind him in the second part after I backed off. What happened was when I did my lap under waved yellows with the safety car signs been held out by all the marshalls (but not behind the safety car), we were still racing so when I let the pack catch up and we passed over the start/finish line. The time was taken from then not the lap before, when I big had my lead. DOH!!!!!!!!

Over all I am very happy with the results and the racing. My day will come

Come on Mr G and mcape, you know you want too

Had a really good night out in the Dam with Gav and Lem. Just about to be the bus to the Airport to fly back to EDH then a bus and a train back to ABZ. The Joys.

Big thanks to all at LOT, a great weekend and a day I will remember for the rest of my life.

Happy days.

Great read Scotty and well done despite all the drawbacks. Just inexperience with the system when it comes down to safety cars and yellow flags, even the F1 drivers screw it up.

Will give you a call when you get back to work tomorrow.

ps Jamie on advice has gone back to his old job until something else comes up.

Delighted for you Scotty! Well done mate :thumbsup

Great effort, and sounds like another good learner for you. Got to remember Gav and Steve W have done one or 2 races in the past
