Hadn't even thought about that bit. Was just going to early rise it.campbell wrote:We have a tent pitch booked at the Aboyne Loch Camp Site, £22 for the night of Sat 20th, so if anyone else is travelling from further afield (Ferg!), just thought I'd mention.
Rumours of final shakedown testing by tearing around the campsite are totally correct

I'll look into it

I'm also not impressed with the inclusion of a 350mm jump!! The original site say (kerb height). Most of us are entering kids as drivers for the thrill of the race. I feel this is an attempt to turn it into a crash and bash like the Red Bull events. Hopefully our carts, and kids will all survive.
Hi Ferg,
I wouldn't be too concerned about the width being slightly over - this is all a bit of fun, not a championship or serious competition.
With regards to the jump - its still to be discussed, but there will likely be a 'go around' of sorts for the jump.
Tony will be along to clarify im sure.
Re: Soapbox tech
"Go round" you say? Who would EVER want to do that, lol.

Re: Soapbox tech
I like being within the rules as far as possible and it was early enough in the build to change a little to accommodate them. No harmClarkyBoy wrote:Ferg wrote: Hi Ferg,

Not to worry about the ramp, I dropped Tony a note asking whether there could be a backside to the large jump so it's possible to take it at a slower speed. Anyone fully committed would pass over the down ramp but it's makes it not an all or nothing excercise. You notice RedBull do this on their final jump.

Ok, the Team FMC story so far.
Random collection of scavenged fence and pre-loved balance bikes...

Upright-based rear wheel assemblies...

Rear subframe assembled...

Off to fabricate a box section front axle. Stand by

S1. Obvz
Front axle challenge at the mo. Either need to fabricate my own bearings, or source 150mm fine pitch axles. Hmmm.

Re: Soapbox tech
Good start Campbell
plenty of options to add a bit of strength. I planned on adding triangular fillets etc to help it stay straight
Re: Soapbox tech
Yup, bracing etc later if time. Lol

Re: Soapbox tech
But I've used pretty thick timber and f*ck off size bolts - M8 I think (!) - so fingers crossed.

Re: Soapbox tech
Front upright and box section steering axle...

Subframe assembled and front axle ready...

Then we had a rolling chassis!! And it survived the shakedown

A few reinforcements needed. Stronger wood for uprights. Possibly different bearings setup needed at rear. And steering axle pivot might need broader washers or some kind of spreader plate.
But chuffed to get this far.
