Friday 4th September 2009

That's the date to put in your diaries/take a sickie/skive off now! 3pm - 5pm at Knockhill Circuit in Fife and then back to Andy's in Edinburgh for the party afterwards.

Once more, Advanced MP3 Players are hosting our annual Charity Trackday - this year, in aid of MND Scotland - supporting the sufferers of Motor Neurone Disease.

http://www.mndscotland.org.uk/index.php
MND Scotland wrote:MND Scotland is the only charity providing direct care and information to people living in Scotland with Motor Neurone Disease, and often we are the only source of support. Our services will cost more than £800,000 this year, meaning we need to raise almost £15,500 every week. We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising to deliver our essential services, and the support of Advanced MP3 Players will help us to make a real difference to the lives of people living with MND.
MND is a terrible neurological condition that leads the sufferer to degenerate very quickly in some cases. It's 100% fatal and the causes are not known. MND Scotland is the only charity in Scotland devoted to caring for the sufferers and their families and performs an incredible job. The charity has been chosen this year as Andy has an aunt who is suffering from the condition currently and MND Scotland have been a lifeline to her at this time.

The Event

For those new to SE who haven't heard of the event, 100% of all the money you give to the day goes to the charity. Track fees are paid by AMP3 and our suppliers - your money is donated directly via a Justgiving charity page. It's quick and simple and it means the charity gets the money as soon as possible.

This year, we are limiting the open spaces to 40. That's officially 10 less than last year and in actual fact more like 17 than actually made it on track. This is to limit crowding, but we've kept the minimum donation at £60. To have a chance of beating the £10,000 raised last year, we'll be relying on people being more generous though - the £60 is very much a minimum donation ;)

In addition to the open pit track action, we are having the after party once more at Andy's place in Edinburgh. This year, thanks to the lower numbers on track, we'll ask for an additional donation of a minimum £15 . If you haven't attended the trackday, you can just pay this £15 donation too. That's for top beer, top quality BBQ food and the entertainment provided by the Shug & Andy show! Slightly different from last years, but with the free food and drink, it's well worth it!

Yes, we'll be having raffles and the Auction once more. If you have anything to donate to the cause - GET IN TOUCH! We've already got a prize from MMC, so any other Lotus suppliers interested, please let me know by the email address below.

IMPORTANT - Contact details and how to sign up:

Email me on shug AT amp3.co.uk with your interest in the trackday and/or party and then go to the Justgiving page to make your donation:

http://www.justgiving.com/amp3_2009

Your place will not be confirmed until I get notification from Justgiving of your donation (the page emails me the minute you make a donation)

Any correspondence with me about the TD (raffle/auction prizes, for example) please use my shug AT amp3.co.uk address! Don't PM me about it and don't just hit the 'email' button on the forum - that goes to a spam filter.

Let's make this the most successful yet - in addition to tracktime, we'll have some pretty special metal on track (Andy will have details of the 430 pax runs soon and we're confirming more stuff daily!)

Thanks Shug.

Guys please have a think about what you can do to help us raise funds for this great cause.

We will be having a raffle, and auction, so if you have or know of anyone you think would be happy to help out with a prize, we'd be delighted to recieve it.

I believe MMC have been first in line to offer something, so a HUGE thankyou to them.

As Shug mentioned, i will have the 430 on hand for this event, in a similar way to last year, offering pax laps :thumbsup

If anyone has any questions or would like to run any ideas past me, feel free to drop me a line or email me - andyg@amp3.co.uk

Thanks for your support in advance, and i look forward to seeing you all then

Andy

Shug at £60 each for 40 spaces, is it enough? Seems cheap to me.

I will be there for both and taking pax out again. Will also encourage some of my supecar owing mates to turn up.

Key phrase Mass - MINIMUM ;)

Everyone who's signed up so far has donated more than they needed to :thumbsup

We have some reserved spaces (it categorically won't creep above 50 total and the reserved stuff won't be out all the time) for some stuff that could add value to the day. Let me know who's interested in coming along - even if it's full at that stage.

I've just received this information from Iain McWhirter, who's the Fundraising Manager of MND Scotland. Worth reading about what we are trying to help out with:
Iain McWhirter wrote:Motor Neurone Disease stops the nerve cells that control the body’s movement from sending messages to muscles. As the nerve cells die, the person with the disease loses the ability to move. MND is often rapid and always fatal. There is currently no known cure.

As the disease progresses, the person will lose their ability to walk, talk and feed themselves, although their intellect usually remains unaffected. They will eventually lose the ability to breathe unaided. The average life expectancy is just 14 months of hearing their diagnosis. There are currently 347 people living in Scotland with MND, and more than 130 people will be diagnosed this year.

MND Scotland is the only charity that provides care and support for people living with MND and their carers, while also promoting and funding research to bring about an end of the disease. Everyone with MND in Scotland receives direct care from one of a team of Care Specialists who also ensure that our range of information and support services can be accessed as soon as possible after diagnosis and throughout the progression of the disease.

We provide direct support to people with MND and their families, through loan of specialist equipment such as electronic communication aids for people who can no longer speak, financial support, information, advice, and professional counselling for people affected by MND and relatives bereaved by the loss of someone to MND. We also work to educate the health and social care professionals involved in caring for people with MND, providing them with training and information, and to influence budget holders and planners within NHS and social care to ensure they provide care services that meet the complex and rapidly changing needs of people with the disease. We campaign at national level and work with politicians and policy makers to raise the profile of MND and ensure people with the disease and their carers are not forgotten in health and research policy and legislation. MND Scotland also funds and promotes research to bring about an end to the disease.

Our services will cost more than £750,000 this year, meaning we need to raise almost £13,500 every week. MND Scotland relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising to deliver these essential services.
So we can razz round having fun, eat and drink and socialise - while all the time the money we spent doing it is helping this cause. Thanks people :thumbsup
