...a slightly more controversial idea would be to, like Dave says, split off a NLC forum but then merge Technical back into a 'General' Lotus forum.

So you'd have no more additional forums but technical questions would start getting discussed in amongst 'on topic' subjects more a bit like old SE.

I also like DDtB's idea... for what my opinion is worth.

Everything else seems well set out and covers all the points raised by the SE1 debate :thumbsup

Good stuff all round here - here's hoping that S_E continues to thrive with lots of useful discussion and merry banter.

And that I get the time to get out in the car more :roll:

Great idea to have it written down, something we should have had on TRS but never got round to.

I agree that a section for general drivel would allow off-topic chit chat to be housed separately :)

I have to say that as with most DDtB speaks sense...

However, i don't like the merging of technical in to general Lotus chat, and then a chat for drivel.

I think chat should be split up into

1) Lotus defined Chat
2) Pub Banter, What's happening in the world, Weird Sanjoy post chat

and keep Technical where it is so those technical gurus like Robin, can sort the polishers out with their questions!

Just my 2p!

I agree. Although I do think too many forum's can dilute a board's character. I think to add another forum may be too much. I don't know that if there were to be a split between drivel and general Lotus chat, that the announcements forum would still be required. Perhaps it could be incorporated into any new general lotus chat forum, with announcements as stickies if need be?

I'll have a read through the charter now.

Useful debate but strictly speaking slightly off-topic, as overall board design / organisation is not what sparked the charter theme :-)

Let's keep to charter reviews here if poss, so that I have one place to track the potential updates to be done before it gets published in T-Minus 13 days ;-)

Campbell, looks great although I'm also not convinced by the "NLC" (although I do try to use it to keep people happy). I view "general" chat as, well, "general". I would assume it's not necessarily about Lotus, so I'm with Dave on the separate forum :thumbsup

Regarding driving standards, I think that's a great thing you're promoting. I could try to sort out a deal with my own and other IAM groups for an SE discount for Advanced driving tests . . . may post up separately if I can sort something out. Would definitely show our interest in promoting driving standards.

Uncomfortable with this. Yes I'm paranoid/hypersensitive, but I'm paid to be.

'representation' suggests that the actions of 'members' on the roads are in someway representative of the community, this isn't sensible. Perhaps phrasing it like,

"As members of S_E, we all have a duty to ensure we do nothing to bring the reputation of the community into disrepute. Anything posted either on these boards or other discussion forums which could be felt to bring the community into disrepute, for example promoting or condoning:-

(i) Poor driving standards;
(ii) Commission of motoring and non-motoring offences;

[however the list is not exhaustive]

Will result in action being taken by the moderators/admin and offending posts may be removed, or forum bans being imposed."

Thanks for the input Greg.

For those wanting to split forums, I'll run a poll - it's not a charter issue (barring the NLC part, which would change to accomodate) so can we keep that chat off this thread please? Thanks.

Greg,

Gotta be one of the most valuable statements you've put on this board in years ;-)

Appreciated, and whilst a little wordy, I will factor this into the final version in some way.

It's amazing, I do a lot of contract stuff in my dayjob and am so used to submitting things to our commercial guys for review, it made my blood run cold to read your observations because for a moment I thought one of 'em had infiltrated SE :shock:
