Declarations

Post by Stephen » Thu Jun 29, 2006 7:34 am

Gillian had a wee bump with my company car in Sept. Does this need to be declared as her making a claim?
We could argue that the company made the claim.

Also does anyone know who is good for quotes at the moment?
If you're not living on the edge you're wasting too much space!

Stephen,

The way I read it (as a company car driver) is unless I have made the claim then I don't declare it. After all the question is have YOU had any claims or convictions.

Ask your insurance company when getting a quote ... I am guessing that what they care about is the accidents not the claims ...

Is the usual question they ask 'any accidents, claims or convistions?'

If not - I guess it will depend on how the Comapny fleet team insure the cars. For example, our cars are only covered Third Party, and they self-insure (or in reality charge back to each business unit) for any damaged caused to the company cars.

Tends to make the drivers a bit more careful if they know that any bashes will come from the bottom line, hitting thier individual bonus/commission etc.

Awaits comments regarding bonus, commission, etc...

The question is usually as Derek said in my experience, which means yes you should declare it.

Unless Gillian knew what she was doing - that way it wasn't an accident but a deliberate act, in which case you can quite honestly answer the question.

I suppose morally you should be up front - but I would listen very carefully to the question and more so read all the small print when you get the policy forms through. If it doesn't ask you about accidents then why should you offer the information?
