Paint Care

Post by PhilA » Sat Mar 12, 2005 2:42 am

What ive learnt...

I use swissol car bath and warm water in a bucket ;)

Found that using a facecloth -> 100% terry cotton towel is better than a sponge.
Use a paint cleanser and a 40% carnb wax about once every 4 months.
Doesnt take long and you can end up leaving the dirt on without it getting ingrained.

Thats a defense? You spend silly money on what sounds like a sherbet treat and then don't use the stuff?

Agreed, buying the stuff and using it is one thing but spending money on something you don't even use is mad!
Maybe you should just give it to me (the swissol) instead ;)

I just use a paint scraper when the flies get too bad...

Och, I'd love to be able to keep it shiny (the car, simon) but what little spare time I have is taken up repairing the bits I break and then ragging the arse off it some more. I always, at least once a year, get it spotless and promise myself that I'll keep it like that.

Never happens...

*flame suit engaged*

For those who like a shiny car but hate polishing them McGuires 3 in 1 lasts for about 4 months. Does take a while to do tho, but you'll be top of the class at the next Tesco car park chav racing meet!

I am no someone who cares for their vehicle so as to ensure its value is retained and they dont drive a shed, but I am planning giving the VX a good clean up very soon as I feel a bit guilty seeing it so dirty

There are some light scratches that I was thinking about attacking with a cutting polish. I'm not sure if the Elise paint is as thin and "likely-to-fall-off-if-you-fart-near-it" as the VX, but can anyone advise if a cutting polish is a good or bad idea, or recommend a product?

Was considering getting some Swissol/Zymol too, is it worth the extra expense over the Autoglym stuff I've been using until now?

Any advice appreciated :)

Yep

Advice, use cutting polish *carefully*, unless you like the look of gelcoat!

Jeez, get me - giving advice on cleaning cars!

I've got a bottle of Mothers that I am going to give a go. Meant to be better than Autoglym and Meguires.
