Paint protection?

Post by bertieduff » Tue Jul 25, 2006 11:00 am

Gettin new clams and a re-spray at the mo from those nice people at MMC. Can anyone tell me tho.....Armourfend/defendall...is there much difference between them, is it worth doing, and how visible is it....? Didn't have it before and the nose got pretty tatty admittedly...comments appreciated!

http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... armourfend

should be a good place to start.

IMO - its too expensive for me to justify as my clams are so tatty, since you're getting new ones and a nice respray, could be a good investment depending what it costs.

I also have a 10%-off contact in armourfend if you need.

Cheers,

Just got quoted £399.50 inc VAT by Tint Haus for defendall. Front clam of an S1. Seems reasonable to me....

cheers guys...haven't seem this stuff in the flesh..can u tell me how visible these films are tho...had a look at the armourfend diagrams...the nose film seems to stop a couple of inches above the badge..doesn't this leave a dirty great line across the bonnet? Would've thought it more sensible to make them to correspond with the 'panel gaps'.
The car had some sort of film on the sills previously (dunno wot) and that was pretty awful looking..don't want to fork out for something that's gonna spoil my nice shiny paintwork...?

Yup, can vouch for that. Would have sworn the white mark on Ed's bonnet was something on top of the paint, until I realised that it was the armourfend split and lifted....

Nothing to do with the bricks that were launched off my undertray at him on the dukes pass at all.....

Any reason you're getting a full respray?

I'm almost positive I saw your car in JMGroup in Perth last Thursday, rear clam was off.

Check the undertrays when you get it back! ;)

I had Armourfend on my Elise, now have Defendall on the Exige. Not much to choose between them. Think defendall is a bit cheaper, and covers a slightly larger area on the front of the car, so is probably the one to go for. Both are near invisible on a silver car, but the edges may show a bit more on a darker colour. Definitely worth doing I reckon.

I thought it showed up worse on lighter cars as you can see the edges once they get dirty. I think PhilA has Defendall and got an extra bit for the sill behind the Lotus-supplied stuff as it misses the worst affected bit!
