Does any body know the best way to remove white mildew stains from a soft top?

Inside or outside?

Inside, just wade straight in with Dettol Anti-bacterial spray, worked in with sponge and warm water. Leave to absorb for a wee while then rinse well (hang the roof over the washing line and hose it, I find works best!).

Outside, better to stay away from strong chemicals, in which case have good go with pure soap cleaner (like you get for washing goretex garments) or the refurb kit you can get from Eliseparts (and others) - Renovo. Fit the roof, wet it, apply the cleaner in solution from a bucket using a nylon-bristled brush (I have a wee circular scrubbing brush, bit like a shaving brush, which works great). Once worked in, again leave to soak a while then hose off well. Get some waterproofer on right away though. Nikwax spray on is good, 2 coats might be needed. Or again, the Renovo kit has a proofer included. This will reduce the likelihood of further mildew, as the roof canvas then holds less water and has less to let the naughty wee spores grow in.

Ah right.

You can probably still spray the Dettol up inside the roof while fitted...just watch your eyes!

Or make up a solution of the stuff in a bucket/basin and sponge it in.

Worst case, the roof fabric *will* come away, although you may need a workshop manual. Or can the roof assembly be detached to enable use of a hardtop instead?

Best of luck.

If you mean from this: -

You'll need some Soda Crystals (from Tesco 60p per pack), add 3oz to 460ml of water and 60ml of Megs APC.......you would probably get away without the APC if you don't have any.

Just spray on, brush then rinse if it's as bad as the one I did shown in the pics (which I doubt) you will need a couple of applications.

You would be advised to apply a protectant after cleaning this will guard against grime, dirt, milldew etc and water will bead like crazy and run straight off the roof, the white "specs" in the after picture is the protectant that had just been applied when dry it is invisable........303 aerospace is what I used.

Also, if it's cold switch the heater on re-circ and it will dry within minutes which allow for a second application.
