Hi, I had a search around and all the posts seem quite old. Can anyone recommend a good outdoor cover for an S2 Elise? One that's not going to damage clean paintwork??

..oh, and one other thing, can you use a shower cap without having the roof off??

I use the shower cap over my soft top as my soft top leaks...
im sure it'll be the same on the S2...

I think all covers will scratch to some extent - if its windy then there will be movement...
Ive got a lotus branded cover for mine, but i make sure the car is spotless before I put it on - so its hardly on!

I have a shower cap for my S2. I do have the longtail version however, but all it needs is a cable tie on each and to go over the tails of the soft top and its all good.

Mine is an eliseparts and I would totally recommend this one over some cheaper copies...

I have avoided the outdoor full covers, just because if you have a slight bit of grit/dirt, a little bit of wind, you'd be as well taking sandpaper to your car .

I got an official Lotus dust cover with the car, can't say I have used it yet .

Oh and some of the other "alternative" shower caps will have straps that attach to various places. Have seen some that have a cord that attaches to the base of the doors. The elise parts one has little clips that go around the wing mirror base, good as there are no bits to flap in the wind and rub on the bodywork.

I have a proper tailored Outdoor cover for an elise (even has ELISE on the front). It has been tucked up in my garage for a few months. I dont want to sell it (I am a bit of a hoarder!!!) but you are welcome to borrow it for a few months to let you decide if its worth spending your own cash. Yeah yours will be the short roof. The way to tell is if your soft top stops at the roll bar then its a short. If it carrys on over it and down toward the rear of the car then its the longtail .

Its only the early S2's that have the longtails, however if you buy one of the Lotus hardtops you get all the kit to convert it to a short along with a new soft top.

Hi Graeme, I got a shower cap and tried it today. Doesn't fit quite as snuggly as I thought it would.Fitting round the wing mirrors is fine but what / how is the best way to secure it towards the back of the car?? Any tips??

the shower cap i have has a loop which goes round the aerial and two elasticated loops that go round the tails of the soft top...

Taken some photos to show you how I've attached mine and mine is pretty snug. Mine is a long tail roof as I mentioned.

Not sure what the short tail version is like, but if you want to post some photos, the rest of the guys and i could give some advice.

....thanks a lot Graeme. It is very similar to yours except where you have the tie wrap hooked over the roof is a panel. I'll need to be careful what I use here I guess. Do you find that the cover towards the back (between the tie-wraps - from side to side) is fairly loose? On mine it does look like it could flap about a bit.....

I'll sort some pictures tomorrow.
